Donald Joseph Murphy

-

March 30, 1935 February 18, 2021 Donald Joseph Murphy, “Murph” as he was known by so many, passed away at the age of 85 after a valiant battle with cancer. Donald managed his illness with courage and strength. His firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. On his final day, he was surrounded by his two daughters, his “sweethearts”, who he loved more than anything else in the world.

Donald served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955-1959, graduated from Boston University in 1962, and later received his MBA from Hartford Graduate School. He enjoyed a long and rewarding sales career in the automotive industry that took him all over the United States and Mexico. He loved his retirement years in Sun Lakes, Arizona.

“Murph” enjoyed sports, knew enough about everything to have an intelligent conversation no matter the topic. When he talked, people listened. He was a straight shooter. He enjoyed life, his family and many wonderful friends. He was always there to brighten the lives of others. Always the consummate gentleman, he demonstrated humility and acceptance even as his life became increasingly consumed by the limitations of his illness. Oh, how he hated not being able to drive! He was no ordinary man; he was larger than life and grew to live life on life’s terms. He was a wonderful man that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished.

Donald is survived by his daughters, April Murphy (Greg Fernandez) of Modesto, California, and Michelle Murphy (Alex Santucci) of Sun Lakes. He is also survived by his two brothers, Robert (Joanne) Murphy of Wellesley, Massachusetts and Stephen (Susan) Murphy of Rancho Murieta, California.

The family would like to acknowledge and send their gratitude to the staff at Hospice at Home, Prestige Home and Infinity Hospice for their exceptional care, kindness and support.

A funeral mass will be held on April 23, 2021 at 10:30AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3450 W. Ray Road, Chandler, Arizona, followed by interment with military honors at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, Arizona.

Flowers graciously declined in lieu of donations to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation mc-lef.org.
