CAPITALS 1, Islanders 0 : Daniel Sprong scored 1:29 in for his third goal in two games, Vitek Vanecek made 18 saves and the Capitals shut out the Islanders to win their first home game with fans this season and sweep a three-game series between the teams.

DEVILS 6, Flyers 4 : Yegor Sharangovi­ch scored the go-ahead goal at 12:36 of the third period and the Devils snapped a 10-game winless streak. Nico Hischier, Pavel Zacha, Miles Wood and Connor Carrick also scored for the Devils.

RANGERS 3, Sabres 1 : Alexis Lafreniere scored the go-ahead goal in the third period, and the Rangers beat the Sabres. Mika Zibanejad and Brendan Smith also scored and Igor Shesterkin made 36 saves as New York improved to 9-2-0 in its last eleven home games.

Bruins 3, PENGUINS 1 : Tuukka Rask turned aside 25 shots and the Bruins edged the Penguins to tighten the playoff race in the hyper-competitiv­e East Division. David Krejci gave the Bruins the lead with his seventh goal of the season late in the second period. Brad Marchand and Taylor Hall scored in the third.

BLUE JACKETS 1, Red Wings 0 (SO) :

Patrik Laine and Oliver Bjorkstran­d scored in the shootout, the only two goals scored in the game, to push the Blue Jackets past the Red Wings. Elvis Merzlikins made 41 saves for Columbus, which had lost nine straight. Thomas Greiss made 33 saves for Detroit.

Lightning 7, BLACKHAWKS 4 :

Alex Killorn scored twice for the Lightning, who won their third straight. Erik Cernak, Yanni Gourde, Alex Barre-Boulet, Brayden Point and Blake Coleman also scored for Tampa Bay. Patrick Kane had two assists for Chicago.

Panthers 7, PREDATORS 4 : The Panthers scored four times in the third period, including two from Jonathan Huberdeau, to push past the Predators. Anthony Duclair, Owen Tippett and Frank Vatrano each had goals and Aleksander Barkov scored twice for Florida.

Hurricanes 5, STARS 1 : Jordan Staal scored a pair of power play goals and the Hurricanes cruised to a win over the Stars. Sebastian Ajo, Max McCormick and Nino Niederreit­er scored for Carolina. Jason Robertson scored for the Stars.
