Police: Security guard fatally shot man, then hid evidence

- Miguel Torres

A security guard is accused of fatally shooting a man and hiding evidence after removing the man from a business in north Phoenix on Sunday, according to a Phoenix police statement.

Ruben Sekiseka, 29, died after police found him with a gunshot wound after 1:30 a.m. outside of Club Silverado near 27th Avenue and Bethany Home Road, the statement explained.

Serafin Chavez, a 34-year-old armed security guard at the club, told police that Sekiseka fell down on his gun and shot himself after he had been kicked out for fighting in the club, the statement said.

Another security guard at the club told police that he had helped Chavez remove Sekiseka from the club, and that once outside, Sekiseka pointed a gun at a group of people, according to a report police filed in court.

The guard and Chavez challenged Sekiseka with their own guns. Sekiseka then tucked his gun into his pants, turned and ran, which is when, according to the guard and another witness, Chavez shot Sekiseka once in the back, the police report stated.

According to the report, when questioned, Chavez admitted to having shot Sekiseka.

Video records showed Chavez removing an object off the trunk lid of a car and walking away with it, the record stated. When pressed, Chavez admitted to having picked up the bullet casing from his gun and taken it to the trash can of the convenience store across the street, which is where police later found it, the record stated.

Chavez was arrested and booked into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
