PHOENIX – After a long illness, Shirley Clarie (Nelson) Owens passed away peacefully on October 16, 2021, at home with her loving husband of 71 years by her side. Shirley was born August 9, 1930 in Seattle, Washington to Ethel and Charles Nelson. She grew up in Spokane, Washington; and after completing high school in Missoula, Montana, she entered nurses training in Spokane. This is where she met the love of her life, Kenneth Owens. Ken was a flyer in the United States Air Force. They met on a blind date, and married in February, 1950. Two sons were born to them, Richard & David. Her family enjoyed living in several states, and countries over the next 20 plus years. After retiring from the Air Force, and accepting a position with Hughes Airwest Airlines in Phoenix, Arizona, Shirley enjoyed her position of housewife & “stay at home” Mother.

Due to Ken’s frequent trips, with both the Air Force & Airlines, Shirley successfully managed the raising of their two sons. Shirley enjoyed traveling to several foreign countries with Ken. She loved the history of each country, and took time to educate their two sons of it while on their visits.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Ethel Nelson, sister, Patricia; and her two sons, Richard Allen & David Nelson Owens. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Owens.

Shirley’s memorial followed by internment will take place on November 1, 2021 at 12:00pm at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Memorial Gardens, 4310 E. Southern Ave., Phoenix, Arizona, 85042
