The Arizona State Fair is over for the year, and gone with it are the Hot Cheeto-topped atrocities and deep-fried everything. For me, kettle corn is the best part about the fair, or any outdoor festival. There’s something irresistible about the sticky sweet treat served warm out of the cooking vat in tubeshaped plastic bags taller than the kids carrying them.

Recently, I’ve found a way to savor the nostalgic flavors sans the fair crowds. At Peixoto Coffee Roasters in Chandler, one sip of the Kettle Corn Latte is all it takes to transport me to memories of the carnival. Better still, it’s a seasonal treat I can enjoy even after the tents have come down.

‘Crop to cup’ coffee in Chandler

Peixoto opened on Boston Street in downtown Chandler in 2015 and the trendy cafe has been slinging specialty coffee ever since.

The beans come from owner Julia Peixoto Peters’ family farm located in Brazil, where her family has grown coffee for more than 100 years. The shop revolves around sustainable farming and high-quality coffee.

Peixoto’s reputable “crop to cup” slogan and mission is easy to support.

Classic lattes and cappuccinos are available year round, but the seasonal menus are where the Peixoto team’s creativity really shines.

This fall, menu options include an earthy, matcha-like Purple Sweet Potato Pie Latte topped with vanilla marshmallow cream, a Buttered Pumpkin Latte and an Elderberry Apple Cider. But if you can only pick one, go with the Kettle Corn Latte, a creamy coffee drink that tastes uncannily close to the real deal.

What does the Kettle Corn Latte taste like?

Made with a buttery kettle popcorn syrup, espresso and customers’ choice of milk, the Kettle Corn Latte comes topped with crumbled kettle corn and salt flakes. The coffee flavor provides a smooth background richness to the sweet and salty treat. This seasonal drink can be served hot or iced ($5.25 for 8-ounce, $6 for 16-ounce).

If you’re looking for a taste of childhood nostalgia, you don’t have to wait until next year’s fair to battle your way to the popcorn maker, just head to Peixoto.
