Handsome Clifford curious to explore

- — Kelsey Dickerson, Arizona Humane Society

Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Each week, The Arizona Republic highlights a handful of the many pets up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Clifford

Not to be confused with a certain famous, fictional character, Clifford aka “Cliffy” sure isn’t to be soon confused with the Big Red Dog he shares his namesake with. However, this absolutely adorable nine-year-old Dachshund mix is sure to still turn heads with his unique personality and even more unique good looks.

As handsome as Clifford is, he wants everyone to know that he is not just good looks. This cute doggo is also potty trained and walks well on a leash as he is very curious about exploring and seeing new things. As you might be able to tell by his kind face, Clifford loves to curl up next to his favorite people and always enjoys binge-watching the latest and greatest shows with his family.

Unfortunately for this pup, he made his way to the Arizona Humane Society after his previous owner passed away and no one was able to care for him. Luckily, his family was a part of AHS’ Legacy Circle, which allows for Continued Care for their pets after their passing. This means adorable Clifford will be in an AHS Foster Hero home until he finds his next forever home. As with most Dachshund breeds, Cliffy has some alopecia on his body (hair loss) but this does not need ongoing medical care – it is just yet another characteristic that makes this little pup unique.
