PAC-12 ROUNDUP

-

Utah 38, Arizona 29: Cameron Rising threw for 294 yards and two touchdowns, T.J. Pledger ran for 119 yards and two touchdowns, and Utah maintained its lead in the Pac-12 South by beating Arizona on Saturday.

It was a hard-earned win for the Utes (7-3, 6-1 Pac-12, No. 24 CFP), who had a tougher time than expected with the last-place Wildcats. Arizona led for part of the first half and kept the game tight all afternoon.

Rising’s perfectly placed 17-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Kincaid in the back corner of the end zone late in the third quarter gave the Utes a 31-20 lead and some semblance of control in the back-and-forth game.

It didn’t last long.

Arizona (1-9, 1-6) responded with a field goal to cut the advantage to 31-23 and then the Wildcats scored again when Nazar Bombata blocked a Utah punt and Rhedi Short recovered before scoring a 3-yard touchdown to pull within 31-29 with about 10:30 left. The Wildcats’ two-point conversion to tie was unsuccessful.

Oregon State 35, Stanford 14: Chance Nolan passed for 257 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for a score, leading Oregon State to a home win over Stanford on Saturday.

The victory makes Oregon State (6-4, 4-3 Pac-12) bowl eligible for the first time since 2013, and snapped an 11-game losing streak vs. the Cardinal.

Nolan completed 19 of 25 passes, including a 67yard touchdown to Trevon Bradford that increased the lead to 21-0 early in the third quarter.

Injuries have taken a toll on Stanford (3-7, 2-6), which has lost five games in a row for the first time under coach David Shaw.

Freshman Ari Patu struggled to get the Cardinal’s passing game going in his first career start, completing 7 of 14 for 51 yards with a touchdown and interception before leaving midway through the third quarter with an undisclosed injury. Stanford used three quarterbacks in the game.

Arizona State 35, Washington 30: Rachaad White rushed for 184 yards and two touchdowns and visiting Arizona State (7-3, 5-2) erased a 14-point deficit to beat Washington (4-6, 3-4).

The Sun Devils used a 9-minute, 20-play drive to pull within three midway through the fourth quarter, then completed the comeback on White’s 10-yard touchdown run with 1:11 left. Arizona State remains in contention for a spot in the Pac-12 championship game with two games left.

UW must win both of its remaining games to reach bowl eligibility. Trying to avoid their first losing season since 2009, the Huskies turned turmoil into motivation as they jumped to a 14-0 lead without suspended head coach Jimmy Lake.
