SCOTTSDALE – Dorothy Mae Fredberg Kleinschmi­dt, age 94, of Scottsdale, AZ, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 23, 2021.

Dottie was born on November 30, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. Daughter of Robert Harold Fredberg and Mabel L (Nelson) Fredberg. Dottie earned her teaching degree at Michigan State University. She began her teaching career in Cheboygan, MI where she met her husband Calvin Louis Kleinschmi­dt on a blind date. They were married about 8 months later and have shared 69 years of marriage. After several relocation­s Dottie and Cal settled in Naperville, IL where Dottie taught middle school for many years. Dottie cherished her students and enjoyed making up creative bulletin boards and helping them to grow their love of reading. After retiring from teaching she began quilting and made many beautiful quilted items for her family. Later she moved on to knitting afghans and boy, was she prolific! Dottie loved creating beautiful color schemes and using different textures.

Dottie is survived by her husband Cal; Daughter Laura Ellen Kleinschmi­dt DeGrange of Naples, FL and son Robert Harold Kleinschmi­dt of Scottsdale, AZ. Grandchild­ren Michael Robert Kleinschmi­dt and Taylor Drew Kleinschmi­dt of Phoenix, AZ and Matthew Charles DeGrange of Chicago, IL. Brother-in-law Frank Grimske and Sister-in-Law Gwen Kleinschmi­dt as well as many nieces and nephews. Cousins Betty (Bud) Skulski, Kay Kiemel and Linda Albrecht.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents and sister Lois Evelyn Grimske; Brother-in-Laws E. Dale Kleinschmi­dt and Edward Kleinschmi­dt and Sister-in-Law Mary Kleinschmi­dt; Cousins Ken Kiemel, Al Albrecht, and Vi Johnson.

A Memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, November 28, 2021 at 3pm at Scottsdale Bible Church located at 7601 E Shea Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ 85260. Arrangemen­ts are being handled by Messinger Indian School Mortuary. 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale AZ 85251. Phone 480-945-9521.

Scattering of ashes will be in Egg Harbor, WI at a future date where Dottie and Cal loved to spend summers.

In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons to N/E Clinical Hospice of the Valley Phoenix, AZ would be appreciate­d.
