Harvey, South Florida upset Stanford

No. 18 South Florida 57, No. 7 Stanford 54: Sydni Harvey’s 3-pointer from the wing with 2.8 seconds left sent South Florida to a win over Stanford in the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championsh­ip tournament on Friday in Nassau, Bahamas.

Led by Harvey’s 15 points, South Florida posted its second victory over a top-10 opponent this week and only the third overall for the program. Bethy Mununga matched a career high with 23 rebounds, to go along with six points.

Trailing by two in the final seconds, Harvey caught a pass from the corner and swished the 3-pointer in front of the Bulls’ bench.

Stanford (4-1) couldn’t recover.

The Bulls (5-2) completed a difficult stretch, playing four ranked teams in their last five games. Before coming to the Bahamas, South Florida lost at Tennessee. Coach Jose Fernandez’s team then played UConn tough before losing and beat then-No. 9 Oregon.

Cameron Brink had 23 points and 11 rebounds for Stanford.

No. 1 South Carolina 79, Elon 38: Aliyah Boston scored 12 points and blocked three shots, and host South Carolina beat Elon.

South Carolina had a 16-point lead trimmed to 33-27 early in the third quarter. But the Gamecocks responded with a 16-0 run to put away the Phoenix (4-1) and improve to 7-0 for the first time since the 2016-17 season.

Zia Cooke finished with 11 points and Destanni Henderson had 10.

No. 6 Baylor 62, Arizona State 52: NaLyssa Smith scored 17 points with 12 rebounds and Baylor defeated Arizona State at the Cancun Challenge in Mexico,

The Bears (5-1) held the Sun Devils (2-4) to 27% shooting through three quarters and then weathered a late surge.

Jordan Lewis added 15 points and Queen Egbo 11 for Baylor, which went 2 of 6 from the foul line in the fourth quarter after making 16 of 20 through three quarters.

Mael Gilles scored 10 points and

grabbed 14 rebounds for the Sun Devils, who trailed by 22 points in the last minute of the third quarter but got within within eight with 2:33 to play.

No. 9 Arizona 75, DePaul 68: Cate Reese scored 19 points and Arizona broke free from a back-and-forth game against DePaul for a victory in the Virgin Islands Paradise Jam tournament.

Shaina Pellington scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half as the Wildcats (6-0) again struggled with another pesky opponent to remain undefeated.

Lauren Ware added 12 points and Ariyah Copeland had 10 for Arizona, which battled with the Blue Demons through six lead changes and eight ties before taking control.

Freshman Aneesah Morrow had a double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds for DePaul (4-2), with Deja Church adding 13 points and Lexi Held 10.

No. 11 Tennessee 68, Kansas 58: Keyen Green scored seven of her 11 points in the fourth quarter as Tennessee broke away from Kansas at the South Point Thanksgivi­ng Shootout in Las Vegas.

Tess Darby scored a career-high 11 for the Lady Vols (5-0) with a career-best three 3-pointers. Jordan Horston added 14 with 11 rebounds for her third doubledoub­le. Horston made four of four free throws in the last 39 seconds.

Holly Kersgieter scored a seasonhigh 19 for Kansas (4-1).

No. 13 Iowa State 75, Charlotte 59: Ashley Joens poured in 27 points and snagged 15 rebounds and Iowa State jumped out to a big lead and cruised to a victory over Charlotte in the first round of the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla. Joens sank 5 of 11 shots from 3-point range for the Cyclones (5-0). Joens scored seven in the first quarter to help

Iowa State grab a 26-9 lead and never look back.

Morgan Kane added 13 points on 4of-6 shooting. Emily Ryan contribute­d 12 points and five assists. Aubrey Joens finished with 10 rebounds as the Cyclones won the battle of the boards 4522 in the first meeting between the schools.

Octavia Jett-Wilson paced Charlotte (1-4) with 18 points and seven rebounds. Mikayla Boykin added 15 points, while Molina Williams scored 11.

Kent State 75, No. 19 UCLA 69: Lindsey Thall scored 20 points, Casey Santoro made 7 of 8 from the free-throw line in the final 76 seconds and Kent State beat UCLA at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla. Thall made 7 of 9 from the field, 5 of 7 from 3-point range, and Santoro finished with 14 points. Katie Shumate added 17 points, Nila Blackford had 11 and Hannah Young scored 10 for Kent State (4-0).

Missouri State 76, No. 24 Virginia Tech 68: Jasmine Franklin scored 21 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and went 9 of 10 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to lead Missouri State to a win at the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico.

Missouri State (4-1) led 23-9 after one quarter, hitting three 3-pointers, going 7 of 14 overall and 6 for 6 from the line while the Hokies were 4 of 14 with one free throw.

The Hokies (5-1) never recovered as Missouri State was 15 of 16 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.

Abigayle Jackson scored a careerhigh 18 points, Sydney Wilson 16 and sixth-year senior and Missouri Valley Conference MVP Brice Calip 10 in picking up her 101st career win. Franklin earned her fourth double-double of the season. The Bears finished 27 of 30 from the free throw line to 8 of 15 for the Hokies.

No. 25 Florida Gulf Coast 81, Tennessee Tech 69: Kierstan Bell, the nation’s leading scorer, poured in a season-high 39 points to lead Florida Gulf Coast to a win in the San Juan Shootout. Bell, who entered the game averaging 26.6 points, was 17-of-31 shooting, making 1 of 5 from 3-point range and 4 of 11 from the foul line.
