No. 7 Stanford routs No. 2 Terrapins

No. 7 Stanford 86, No. 2 Maryland 67: Hannah Jump scored 21 points, hitting seven 3-pointers, and Haley Jones added 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead Stanford (5-2) to a win over Maryland (6-2) at the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championsh­ip on Saturday in Nassau, Bahamas.

Stanford took command with a 12-2 run late in the first quarter, capped by Jump’s third 3 of the period.

The Cardinal kept the run going in the second. After Chloe Bibby hit a jumper to make it a five-point game, Stanford outscored the Terrapins 24-7 the rest of the quarter to go up 46-24 at the half.

Maryland was short-handed to begin with as only seven players were dressed because of illness and injuries. Point guard Ashley Owusu picked up her third foul in the second quarter on an offensive foul and then was hit with a technical right after, sending the star to the bench with 2:56 left in the period. The Terrapins didn’t score the rest of the half.

No. 5 North Carolina State 62, Washington State 34: Diamond Johnson scored 24 points and No. 5 North Carolina State (6-1) beat Washington State (4-1) at the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championsh­ip.

The Wolfpack played stellar defense, holding the Cougars to 26% shooting from the field.

N.C. State built a 14-point halftime lead as Johnson, who made 10 of her 16 shots, had 13 of her points before the break. Washington State hung around for most of the third and only trailed 3928 before the Wolfpack closed the period by scoring the final 10 points.

Elissa Cunane had half the points during the closing burst and finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.

No. 6 Baylor 74, Houston 58: NaLyssa Smith had her sixth straight doubledoub­le with 21 points and a career-high 19 rebounds and Baylor (6-1) turned back Houston (3-4) on Saturday to win the Cancun Challenge in Mexico.

Smith had 18 in the second half for her 30th career double-double. Queen Egbo scored 16 points and Ja’Mee Asberry

12 for the Bears, the only team to go 3-0 in the tournament with Houston, Arizona State and Fordham each finishing 1-2.

The Bears took control in the third quarter, limiting the Cougars to five points and extending a 34-27 halftime lead to 51-32.

No. 9 Arizona 80, Rutgers 44: Cate Reese scored 16 points and Arizona (6-0) cruised to a victory over Rutgers (4-4), the final day of the Virgin Islands Paradise Jam.

Gisela Sanchez added 15 points and Aaronette Vonleh had 12 points, both off the bench, for the Wildcats. Arizona led by as many as 42 points and won the tournament’s Island Division title.

Osh Brown had nine points and Shug Dickson scored eight points for the Scarlet Knights, who had won three Paradise Jam titles but went 0-3 in their fourth appearance. Arizona put Rutgers away early.

No. 11 Tennessee 80, Oklahoma State 55: Jordan Horston just missed a triple-double, Tamari Key had a doubledoub­le and Tennessee (6-0) rolled to a win over Oklahoma State (3-3) at the South Point Thanksgivi­ng Shootout.

Horston led a balanced attack with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting and had nine rebounds and nine assists. Key had 12 points and 11 boards. Alexus Dye and Sara Puckett both added 11 points.

The Lady Vols beat a Big 12 team for the third straight game, edging No. 12 Texas in overtime last Saturday and beating Kansas by 10 in their first game at the Shootout. It was Tennessee’s second trip to a Vegas tournament, the first coming 42 seasons ago.

No. 12 Michigan 64, Mississipp­i State 48: Leigha Brown scored a season-high 23 points, Naz Hillmon had her third straight double-double and Michigan (7-0) defeated Mississipp­i State (5-1) in the Daytona Beach Invitation­al.

Hillmon, a game after becoming the third Wolverine to surpass 1,600 points and 800 rebounds, scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. It was a bit of a struggle as the 70% shooter was just 6 of 15 from the field.

Barnes Arico, who picked up her 200th win at Michigan to join legendary men’s coaches Johnny Orr (209) and Joh Beilein (278). Barnes is 200-102 in 10 years.

No. 13 Iowa State 93, Penn State 59: Aubrey Joens scored 21 points, all on 3pointers, older sister Ashley Joens had 13 points and Iowa State (6-0) made 18 3-pointers in a rout of Penn State (4-2) at the Gulf Coast Showcase.

For Aubrey Joens, it was a career night. She tied her career high in scoring, had her first double-double and had career highs in rebounds with 11 and 3pointers with seven.

Iowa State made 10 3-pointers in the first half.

No. 14 Texas 83, Northridge 42: DeYona Gaston came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting to lead host Texas (4-1) to a win over Cal State Northridge (3-2).

Audrey Warren added 13 points and Joanne Allen-Taylor 12 as the Longhorns rebounded from losing to Tennessee in overtime last weekend.

Texas held the Matadors to 33% shooting, had a 46-27 rebounding advantage and forced 28 turnovers.

Notre Dame 64, No. 16 Oregon State 62: Maya Dodson and Maddy Westbeld combined for 25 points – sparking Notre Dame (6-1) to an early lead – but it was barely enough to hold off Oregon State (3-2) at the Daytona Beach Invitation­al.

Oregon State’s Talia Von Oelhoffen scored 25 by herself, with 20 coming in the last 9:53 as she almost single-handedly erased what had been a 22-point Fighting Irish lead.

Purdue 66, No. 17 Florida State 61: Cassidy Hardin made six 3-pointers and scored a career-high 18 points, Madison Layden added four 3-pointers and 16 points, and Purdue (5-2) beat Florida State (4-2) at the St. Pete Showcase in St. Petersburg, Fla.

It was Purdue’s first win over a ranked team since 2019.

South Dakota State 76, No. 19 UCLA 66: Lindsey Theuninck and Tori Nelson each scored 11 points and South Dakota State (3-4) beat UCLA (3-2) at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla.

The Jackrabbit­s outscored UCLA 2513 in the second quarter to take a 37-31 lead into the break. Paiton Burckhard opened the fourth quarter with a 3pointer and South Dakota State led by at least five points the rest of the way. Haleigh Timmer made SDSU’s last field goal with 3:37 left.

No. 21 Ohio State 86, Cincinnati 50: Rebeka Mikulasiko­va scored 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting and Jacy Sheldon had 17 points, six assists and five rebounds to lift Ohio State (5-0) over Cincinnati (3-3).

Taylor Mikesell hit three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points and Kateri Poole added 12 points, six assists and five rebounds for Ohio State (5-0).

BYU 58, No. 22 West Virginia 57: Shaylee Gonzales scored 20 points, including two free throws with three seconds left, and West Virginia made just one of two from the line with .4 seconds remaining, giving BYU (7-0) a win over the Mountainee­rs (4-1) in the championsh­ip game of the St. Pete Showcase in St. Petersburg, Fla.

After Esmery Martinez of West Virginia tied the game with a layup with 57 seconds to play the Mountainee­rs had a chance to take the lead after a BYU turnover but they missed a shot. Gonzales was going for the game winner when Martinez fouled her.

No. 24 Virginia Tech 54, UT Martin 49: Elizabeth Kitley had her third double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds and Virginia Tech (6-1) beat UT Martin (3-4) at the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico.

Kitley broke a tie at 42 to start the fourth quarter and Virginia Tech went on a 6-0 run as UT Martin went fourplus minutes without scoring. The Skyhawks pulled within 50-49 with 1:16 left but Azana Baines answered at the other end and Kitley scored with 13 seconds to go.

No. 25 Florida Gulf Coast 73, Saint Louis 65:

Kerstie Phills scored a seasonhigh 16 points, Kierstan Bell added 14 and Florida Gulf Coast (7-0) remained undefeated with a victory over Saint Louis (1-5) in the San Juan Shootout. Phills made three 3-pointers, was 6 of 10 from the floor and grabbed nine rebounds.
