SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Emily Nancy Moeckel, born Feb 14, 1921 in St. Louis, MO, and Myrl Allen Courtright, born June 3, 1913 in Bristow, OK. were married in St Louis, MO on July 26, 1942. Emily is survived by her children Nancy Saine, Dale Courtright and Debra Courtright. She has two grandchildren Brett Courtright and Katy Emerick and two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Edward. In her younger years, Emily enjoyed membership in Job’s Daughters. She also enjoyed dancing and time with her sisters. Myrl started a long and very successful career with Sears Roebuck & Co. As he became more successful, they moved him to different locations in the Midwest and Eastern and Western Canada.

His last move was to a new store opened in Calgary, Alberta. It was a great move for Myrl’s career and opened a great many of opportunities for the family. Emily joined the United Church of Canada and was very active in the local church. Soon they were active in Rotary Club, with Emily, President of Rotary Ann’s! Rotary was a big part of all of our lives over the years.

Myrl and Emily bought acreage in Bragg Creek a short distance from Calgary, where they kept several horses. Debbi took up riding and began showing her horse, Sunny, a beautiful Arabian Chestnut. Emily became an expert groomer learning to scrub the white tails and manes. They spent fifteen years of their life showing Sunny all over Alberta.

After over 30 years, Myrl retired and they moved to Paradise Valley. Emily quickly joined the Welcome Wagon. She quickly found a new church home at Valley Presbyterian Church. She soon became an Elder and was the Evangelism Coordinator from 1987 to 2006. She served as an Usher for 20 years. Emily also served on the committee to find a new pastor. Emily served as head of the Annual Faith Giving Campaign in 2004. she was very active in the Annual Cook’s Tour held every November. She loved this event attending and working.

She enjoyed working with friends in the custodial staff as well as those in the office. Every Friday morning she was collating the bulletins. They seemed to enjoy that fellowship together. She was deeply dedicated to her participation of her Circle. Her Circle was really her greatest love for the deep friendships she made with them. The Church and fellowship with lasting friends was her greatest joy. This was her best way to serve the Lord, with her time.

It is only fitting that her Celebration of Life will be held at the Chapel at Valley Presbyterian Church. The service will be held on Nov 30, 2021 at 2:00 pm.
