Break out that bottle of champagne, your red dress or your favorite sequined shirt — it’s time to ring in 2022. Many of Arizona’s favorite New Year’s Eve celebrations are back in person this year.

You could head to Prescott, Flagstaff, Tucson or Show Low to celebrate the new year. One event even has a virtual option, just in case you want to stay cozy at home.

Before you attend your event, however, make sure to check with your destination for the latest coronavirus precautions and updates. Some events may have last-minute changes or entry protocols that you need to follow.

Here are four places around Arizona to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

Flagstaff: Great Pinecone Drop

Want to see a 6-foot-tall metal pinecone illuminated with hundreds of LED lights light up the sky on New Year’s Eve? The 2021 Great Pinecone Drop at the Weatherford Hotel in Flagstaff is back for in-person viewing. You can catch the drop at three different times.

The Great Pinecone Drop became a New Year’s Eve tradition in Flagstaff 23 years ago. Pamela S. (Sam) Green, who co-owns the Weatherford Hotel with her husband Henry Taylor, started the street party in 1999 to celebrate the 100year anniversary of the hotel, which opened its doors on Jan. 1,1900, as well as the history of Flagstaff.

Since then, thousands of people have gathered in the streets outside the hotel to count down the new year as the pinecone slowly makes its way down a pole.
