ASU women vs. USC postponed over COVID issues

Arizona State women’s basketball will have to wait before beginning Pac-12 play. The team’s contest scheduled at USC on Sunday has been postponed due to COVID-19 protocols within USC’s program.

The Sun Devils were previously scheduled to play USC following a matchup with UCLA on Dec. 31, another game that was previously postponed due to COVID-19 protocols within UCLA.

USC will work with the Pac-12 and Arizona State to reschedule the game on a mutually agreed upon date.

Arizona’s game with USC scheduled for Friday was also postponed.

Arizona State’s non-conference game will be played at Weatherup Center without fans. ASU previously played in the campus venue on Dec. 22 in a 6952 victory over UC Irvine . ... The contest marks the first meeting between the programs. Lipscomb, a team in the ASUN Conference, has lost to BYU and Utah this season. Blythe Pearson leads the Bisons in scoring with 9.8 points per game.

ASU men reschedule Cal game

Having lost its scheduled weekend trip to Los Angeles because of COVID-19 protocols in place for those Pac-12 schools, Arizona State men’s basketball has reschedule­d its Jan. 19 game at California for 4 p.m. Jan. 2.

The Sun Devils (5-7, 1-1 Pac-12) were supposed to play at USC and UCLA on Thursday and Saturday, respective­ly. The have not played since a 66-65 home loss to San Francisco on Dec. 19.

“With both teams (ASU and Cal) having games canceled this weekend, this move allows for scheduling flexibilit­y as the season moves forward, which is necessary right now,” ASU coach Bobby Hurley said in a statement.

ASU is 3-1 in its past four, all of which have been decided by a total of nine points. Kimani Lawrence is tied for Pac-12 lead with six double-figure rebounding games and six double-doubles.
