Authorities arrested 57-year-old Dewey Franklin Sigler on suspicion of impaired driving in connection to a four-vehicle crash that killed one person and injured three others Monday in Surprise.

Department of Public Safety troopers received reports of the crash in the southbound lanes of U.S. 60 at 163rd Avenue in Surprise around 11 a.m., according to department spokesperson Bart Graves.

Sigler, who was driving a Penske truck, struck three vehicles stopped at a traffic signal headed east on U.S. 60, arrest documents stated.

The truck struck a Toyota, which injured two people inside the vehicle. The force of the collision pushed the Toyota into the desert, Graves said.

The truck also collided with a Nissan Altima, killing the driver.

Just after that, a tractor-trailer struck the Penske box truck, Graves said. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, Graves said.

Detectives are investigating possible impairment of the Penske truck driver as a factor in the collision, Graves said.

Sigler was taken to a hospital for treatment. He later told hospital staff he uses approximately 10 fentanyl pills daily. Thirty pills were found in Sigler's personal bag on scene, arrest documents stated.

An initial toxicology report done at the hospital stated there was a "presumptive positive for methamphetamines in his urine," arrest documents stated.

Two tubes of blood were collected from Sigler, but drug test results were pending, arrest documents stated.

Sigler was booked into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of one count of reckless manslaughter, one count of narcotic drug possession, and one count of drug paraphernalia possession, arrest documents stated.

Bond was set at $500,000. A preliminary hearing has been set for April 14.
