Bruins top Penguins, lock up playoff spot

Bruins 2, Penguins 1: Jeremy Swayman rebounded from a rough stretch with 23 saves and host Boston clinched a playoff spot by holding off Pittsburgh on Saturday to halt a season-high threegame losing streak. Former Bruin Danton Heinen scored for the Penguins, who fell to 2-5-1 in their past eight. Casey DeSmith stopped 27 shots.

Predators 4, Blackhawks 3: Mikael Granlund had a goal and an assist to lead host Nashville over Chicago. Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist, Dominik Kubalik and Riley Stillman also scored, and Kevin Lankinen made 30 saves for Chicago, losers of nine of 10.

Rangers 4, Red Wings 0: Alexis Lafreniere scored twice and the host New York Rangers beat the Detroit Red Wings. Mika Zibanejad had a goal and an assist and Frank Vatrano also scored for New York. Barclay Goodrow had two assists. Igor Shesterkin made 20 saves for his fifth shutout of the season. Thomas Greiss had 33 saves for the Red Wings.

Blues 6, Wild 5 (OT): Brayden Schenn scored 56 seconds into overtime and the host St. Louis Blues wrapped up a playoff spot, beating the Minnesota Wild for their season-high eighth straight victory. Ryan Hartman scored twice for Minnesota and Frederick Gaudreau, Marcus Foligno and Kirill Kaprizov added goal.

Flames 4, Golden Knights 0: Mike Smith made 39 saves for his second consecutiv­e shutout and 44th overall and host Edmonton beat Vegas. Evander Kane had a goal and an assist and Kris Russell, Cody Ceci and Warren Foegele also scored.

Lightning 7, Jets 4: Nikita Kucherov scored twice and added two assists, Victor Hedman had four assists and host Tampa Bay tied a season high in goals in a victory over Winnipeg. Kyle Connor, Paul Stastny, Josh Morrissey and Adam Lowry scored for Winnipeg.

Sabres 4, Flyers 3: Tage Thompson’s go-ahead goal capped a four-goal, second-period outburst and host Buffalo rallied to a win over Philadelph­ia. Joel Farabee, Owen Tippett and Travis Konecny scored for an injury-depleted Flyers team.

Senators 5, Maple Leafs 4 (OT): Mark Giordano scored 3:26 into overtime to lead host Ottawa over Toronto. Mitchell Marner scored twice for the Maple Leafs. Michael Bunting and Kyle Clifford also had goals for Toronto, which got 25 saves from Erik Kallgren.

Capitals 8, Canadiens 4: Anthony Mantha scored twice in a 34-second span midway through the second period and had two assists in visiting Washington’s victory over Montreal. Ryan Poehling scored twice for Montreal. Jake Evans and Nick Suzuki added goals, and Samuel Montembeau­lt made 32 saves.

Stars 2, Sharks 1: Tyler Seguin scored early, Michael Raffl added a short-handed goal and host Dallas kept up its surge toward a Western Conference wild-card spot, beating San Jose. Timo Meier had his career best with his team-leading 33rd goal for the Sharks.
