Lee Stephen Holland
1937 – 2022 Lee Stephen Holland, age 85, born February 19, 1937 in West Jefferson, Ohio passed away April 11, 2022 peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was a 1955 graduate of West Jefferson High School where he was a four sport letterman and often said that “West Jeff provided the best childhood a kid could hope for.” He married his high school sweetheart Mary Joan “Jo” (Roszman) in 1956 and after stops in Long Beach and Las Vegas, they settled in Scottsdale, Arizona to raise their family. He is also survived by; daughters Cathy Holland-Cox (Tom Turner) of Flagstaff, Pamela (David) Kurtz of Scottsdale and his son Doug (Janet) Holland of Tucson; grandchildren Austin (Kristen) Kurtz, Cole (Bailey) Kurtz, Jennifer Cox, Stephen (Ashley) Cox, Brooke (Michael) Morgan and Lee (Marissa Wheeler) Holland; and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers Paul, Gerald and David. As an undergraduate from Ohio State University he cheered for his Buckeye’s and after earning his PhD from Arizona State University he enjoyed Sun Devil sports too. Lee was a lifelong athlete playing golf, basketball, tennis or any activity where he could spend quality time with friends and family. Lee spent 25 years as a clinical psychologist with Washington School District in Phoenix where he made life long friends who he kept in contact with long after retirement. He recently reflected on his life saying “I lived a dream life and am thankful for my 85 years.” He was a voracious reader of all things science and was intellectually curious his entire life. Lee and Jo found happiness at family gatherings, traveling and creating their own adventures. A celebration of life will be held in the fall. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the West Jefferson Scholarship fund, earmarked for the Holland Memorial Scholarship.
