Nancy Amelia Concholar
Nancy passed away peacefully, Wednesday March 30, 2022; at the age of 85. Nancy was born in Marion, Massachusetts as the fifth oldest child to Henry and Mary Fernandes. Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher. She graduated from Wareham High School, then went to Saint Luke’s Nursing School in New Bedford, Massachusetts. She attended Boston College on an academic scholarship and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Philosophy. Nancy met her future husband, Harry, when her brother, Hank, brought him over to the house while on leave in the Navy. They married July 29, 1961 and moved to Arizona.
Nancy worked at Saint Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center for over 36 years. Her passion was nursing. Some of the different positions that Nancy held were, an Instructor at Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing; Director of Obstetrics & Gynecological Services; and Manager of Employee Health Services. Nancy loved to volunteer. She volunteered at Saint Vincent de Paul Grade School, on the School Board, not only when her four children attended, but also, when her grandson attended. She tutored children needing extra assistance. After retiring, she volunteered at Saint Joseph’s Hospital and at the Andre House where she served the needs of the hungry and homeless in downtown Phoenix, for several years. Nancy enjoyed spending time visiting her family back east, eating great seafood and, in particular, chocolate. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. She is survived by her daughters Monica Concholar, Katrina Concholar, Felicia Concholar, and Deanna Thomas; her son-in-law Bruce Thomas; grandchildren: Aaron, Dahlia, Zoe, Gregorio; her sisters Elizabeth Walker, Julie Gomes, brother Steven Fernandes, and many other loving relatives.
A Rosary and Memorial Service will be held on Thursday May 5, 2022, at 5:30pm and 6:30pm, at Saint Gregory’s Parish Hall, 3424 N. 18th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85015. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday May 6, 2022, at 10:00am, at Saint Vincent de Paul Church, 3140 N. 51st Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85031. A Committal Service will follow at Saint Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St, Phoenix, AZ. Arrangements entrusted to East Lake Mortuary in Phoenix, AZ.
