Scottsdale Prep sweeps team, individual Division III golf titles
Tuesday marked the conclusion of the high school golf season, as 15 schools clashed in the Arizona Interscholastic Association Division III coed golf state championship in Tucson.
Following two rounds at the Catalina Course of the Omni Tucson National Resort, Scottsdale Prep brought home its second straight championship and the Spartans’ Adam Miller won backto-back individual titles.
Scottsdale Prep finished with a team score of 582, 45 strokes ahead of second-place Scottsdale Christian.
The Spartans, who shot a 292 on the first day and a 290 on the second, were the only program to notch any round below 300.
This week marked another dominant Scottsdale Prep performance in the state competition. Last year, the Spartans used a 40-stroke advantage to win their first-ever championship.
Following Monday’s competition, Miller, the son of Spartans coach Brian Miller and a New Mexico commit, was playing from behind to defend his title. He shot a 73 in the first round, two strokes behind co-leaders Gracie McGovern of Scottsdale Christian and Kevin Chor of AZ College Prep. He made sure to erase that deficit Tuesday by shooting a 68, the lowest individual round of the entire tournament, to clinch the 2022 title by one stroke (141).
Miller and his teammates played a crucial role in notching the school title as five Scottsdale Prep golfers finished in the top 10.
In addition to notching second in the team event (627), Scottsdale Prep’s McGovern finished as the individual runner-up with a score of 142.
