Kate and more pets up for adoption in Phoenix-area shelters this week
Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.
Each week, The Arizona Republic highlights a handful of the many pets up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.
Luciana: Lucky L
Luciana is a 5-year-old who had been rescued and brought to Sun Cities 4 Paws when she was pregnant with her six babies, a very lucky thing for all of them. Time has elapsed, and she would love to have a real mom, dad, or both of her very own. This pretty gray and white girl, with a cute black nose, is very friendly to people and to other cats as well. She likes to jump up into laps on her own, and enjoys petting; a friendly nip will tell you when she has had enough.
How to adopt: Pay her a visit at 11129 Michigan Avenue, Youngtown; call 623876-8778 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesdays-Saturdays, also the adoption days. Kate: A curious cat
Kate is a beautiful domestic, shorthaired, gray cat about six years old. She is a very sweet girl but her expression often conveys her serious side. She is a curious and friendly cat that would love to find a forever home.
How to adopt: Kate lives at Friends for Life's adoption center located at 952 W. Melody Avenue in Gilbert. Her adoption fee is $175. At Friends for Life, animals are altered, vaccinated, microchipped and dewormed. Cats are also tested for FELV/FIV.
