PHOENIX – Duane Morrow, also known as The Man in Black, The Original Cowboy, and Old Ironsides, was born on October 16th, 1932, in Phoenix Arizona. He was just shy of his 90th birthday when he passed away in his home peacefully surrounded by family on September 29, 2022.

His family Pioneered to Arizona from Texas in 1907 as cattle ranchers. He enlisted in the army as a young teenager. At the age of 19 he was sent to North Korea and fought in The Korean War for over 2 years. He survived the bloodiest battle during the Korean War and is known as the “Chosin Few or the Frozen Chosin”. He also served in Vietnam. During his 22 years in the Army, he was well honored and represente­d the US Army as a member of the honor cordon at John F. Kennedy’s presidenti­al inaugurati­on. He retired as Sergeant Major in 1969. After the military he started his second career in Real Estate as a broker owning Red Carpet Realty and later selling commercial real estate. Retiring at the age of 80 years old. He married Mavis Morrow in 1996 and enjoyed each other’s love until she died in 2017. They spent many weekends with their blended family hosting pool parties and bbqs. He enjoyed trap and skeet shooting and watching the Arizona Cardinals and Diamondbac­ks.

Duane was a charismati­c and charming man whose love of life touched every person he met. His larger-than-life ability to light up a room and fill it with laughter was a joy! How he will be missed by all who knew him and loved him! We will always remember his laughter, his humor, and inappropri­ate metaphors.

He is survived by his loving children Brooke Morrow, Janice Morrow, Charlotte Osborn, Shaun Weatherly, James Gay, Rodney Coty, Brian Osborn, grandchild­ren; Zachary Coty, Addison Coty, Alexis van Olffen, Troy Osborn, Craig Osborn, Shaun Ryan Weatherly Jr., and Sklyer Weatherly. He is also survived by 2 cousins he considered brothers, Bruce Morrow and Brian Morrow. Duane was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mavis Morrow, sister Colleen Mowrey, daughter Margaret (Peggy) Morrow, and his parents Cole Morrow and Vivian Travis Morrow.

There will be a Committal Service with Military Honors at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, Az 85024 on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 12:30pm followed by a reception at Brooke Morrow and Rodney Coty’s residence.
