Morant to miss at least two games after video

- Damichael Cole

Ja Morant will miss at least the next two games as the NBA conducts an investigation into a video in which Morant purportedly held a gun at a nightclub, the Memphis Grizzlies announced Saturday.

“Ja Morant will be away from the team for at least the next two games,” the release stated.

The video surfaced after the Grizzlies’ 113-97 loss against the Denver Nuggets. Morant was seen in an Instagram Live video at 4:19 a.m., roughly four hours after the game.

“We are aware of a social media post involving Ja Morant and are investigating,“NBA spokesperson Mike Bass said in a statement earlier Saturday.

While Morant has been in the news over the past two months because of multiple off-court incidents, this is the first time the Grizzlies have announced any action against the All-Star point guard.

A report Wednesday from the Washington Post revealed Morant was “brandishing” a gun after an altercation with a 17-year old teenager at Morant’s home last summer. Four days before that incident, Morant was accused of threatening a mall security guard.

The Athletic also reported that acquaintances of Morant “trained a red laser” on members of an Indiana Pacers traveling party after a game at

FedExForum on Jan. 29.

The Grizzlies (38-24) are on the road in Los Angeles for games against the Clippers and Lakers on Sunday and Tuesday. They return home to face the Golden State Warriors at FedEx Forum on Thursday.

The Grizzlies were in second place in the Western Conference entering Saturday, six games behind the Nuggets.
