Kathleen Joan Batstone, 66, passed away on January 29, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family following a valiant eight-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Kathy was born in Rice Lake, WI, on September 28, 1956. She later moved to Tucson where she attended the University of Arizona, earning a degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, Kathy married the love of her life and best friend, Jim. Together, they moved to Phoenix where they raised their two daughters, Ashley and Kimberly.

Kathy had a zest for life that was infectious to everyone around her as she approached each day with positivity and grace. Among many interests, Kathy loved traveling, cooking, gardening, and reading, but her greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends. She led her family with love, patience and integrity, showing her daughters how to live life with purpose and compassion while enjoying the ride along the way. Kathy was the glue that held her family together; her unwavering commitment to them was evident in everything she did.

Kathy’s remarkable dedication to her family was mirrored in her devotion to helping others. She was an active community member and supported organizations throughout the Valley, including The Board of Visitors, which has served the healthcare needs of women, children and the elderly since 1908. In addition, she held a prominent role in establishing the 4th of July Carnival and revitalizing the Rec Hall at White Mountain Country Club in Pinetop, AZ, a place that was near and dear to her heart for over 30 years. Kathy’s love for children and community extended into the classroom as she taught early childhood education and elementary school for 19 years, inspiring countless families through her warmth and kindness. Her passion for education earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues, students and parents alike, and she will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew her.

Kathy leaves behind her loving husband, Jim (of 43 years), and her daughters, Ashley Jessup (Morris, Marley & Carson) and Kimberly Cardosi (Cameron, Hayes & Isla Kathleen). She is survived by her siblings Richard McGough, Paul McGough (Kathy), Patricia Nulman, Elizabeth Jones, and many nieces and nephews. Kathy was predeceased by her parents, George and Irene McGough, brother, John McGough, and sister, Mary Ann Ormson.

A celebration of life will be held at 10 am on March 18, 2023, at Christ Church of the Ascension, located at 4015 E Lincoln Dr, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Kathleen Batstone Memorial Scholarship Fund at Christ Church School, where Kathy taught for many years. This scholarship will provide opportunities for students to receive a quality education, which Kathy valued deeply. Donations can be made directly to the school. Kathy’s legacy will continue to live on through this scholarship and the impact she had on her community will be felt for years to come.
