Dr. Emil B. Borg

-

November 17, 1926 – February 21, 2023 We lost our loving Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, family patriarch and friend, Emil Borg, to chronic heart failure, on February 21st. Emil re-joins his wife of 70 years, Janna Borg, on the other side.

Emil, 96, was born on November 17, 1926 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He led an amazing life of generosity that touched so many people. He was a proud member of the US Navy, wherein he aspired to be a naval aviator. With WW II’s end near, that ambition was cut short. He later joined the US Army, and as a dental school graduate (Univ. of Minnesota), the Army stationed him in Fort Huachuca, Sierra Vista, AZ in 1951, where he and Janna fell in love with Arizona. Since 1953, he lived a good life in Phoenix, with a 40 year dental career. One of Emil’s great loves was golf. Playing 3-4 times each week for 60+ years, Emil was an accomplished golfer and became Arizona County Club’s longest member. He enjoyed countless competitive games, wherein, the big “winner” usually won less than $5 and would be expected to buy drinks for the entire foursome. Emil also managed to garner NINE hole-in-ones (including 1 at age 90), and FIVE Arizona State Father-Son Championships, playing with his three sons in Prescott, AZ. Another love, was spending time almost every summer of his life at the family cabin in Minnesota, at Lake Minnewawa. A “lake family” formed over the decades, with “family” from around the country and Europe. “The Lake” was clearly his second and a beloved home, and his lake family was a constant source of happiness and fun throughout his life. Emil’s love for antique cars lead to countless Model T and Model A rides around the Lake. These rides often led to overgrown back-woods trails, and several “oh Emil” exclamations from his wife, Janna. Emil is survived by his 4 children (Wade, Sandy, Jay & Bret), 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Emil joins his parents, Emil, Sr. and Gladys, sister Dauph, brother Hal and other loved ones in the afterlife. You are TRULY LOVED and will be missed...until we meet again. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Lake Minnewawa Association (lakeminnewawa.org, PO Box 58, McGregor, MN 55760), to Hospice of the Valley (hov.org, 510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014), or your non-profit of choice. Private Memorials will be held Phoenix in April and Minnesota in July.
