Carmen Camargo

-

– Carmen (Martinez) Camargo of Phoenix passed away peacefully on March 1st, at the age of 89. Carmen was a beloved woman completely devoted to her family. She was adored by all who had the privilege of spending time with her and lived every day showing kindness and warmth to others. She was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona where she was 1 of 8 children. She treasured the loving relationships with her three sisters (Maggie, Jessie, Julia) and four brothers (Tony, Nufi, Tommy, and Billy). She regularly shared fond stories of her early years in Mesa with her many friends, along with her inseparable sister Julia. Her siblings and friends would have picnics that always included music and singing. Weekends were filled with salsa, cumbias, and waltzing, with an occasional two step at their favorite dance venues, which included Riverside and Calderon ballrooms. It was an evening at the American Legion Post 41 where she would meet her future husband of 60 years, John Camargo. Together Carmen and John raised four children in their loving home. She will always be remembered for her warm smile and generous hugs. She found joy in everything around her, had an enduring sense of optimism, and loved the time spent with her large extended family. She loved being a mother and relished all the moments with her family, whether it was around the dinner table where they all enjoyed her amazing cooking and baking skills or attending Sunday mass together. As her family grew, summer vacations with her children and grandchildren in Flagstaff and Coronado were priceless to her. Long chats over coffee, shopping with her girls, beautiful flowers, and Chinese food, were some of her favorite things. She is survived by her husband John, and children, John Paul, Julie (Jeff), Jim (Lupe), Jeanette (Rodney), along with her grandchildren, Jeffrey, Olivia, Jillian, Isabella, Sophia, and Mia. The grandchildren will forever remember their Nana’s biscochuelo cookies that she would bake for them every Christmas. She is also survived by her sister Julia, and many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held Saturday March 25, 2023, at the Brophy Chapel at 1pm. A reception following mass will be held at Anderson Hall at St. Francis Church in Phoenix 4701 E. Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85012. Arrangements entrusted to A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary.
