On February 26, 2023, at the age of 95, our kind, beautiful, loving mother passed away. Mom’s life was dedicated to her family, faith, friends and students. She will be greatly missed by those of us fortunate enough to have been included in her circle of goodness. Mom was born and grew up in Slayton, MN, then attended Hamline University in St. Paul. After graduation, she married Bob, the love of her life. They were married for 70 years. Mom was a social worker, elementary teacher, Vision teacher, and member and officer of several organizations, including her beloved Nordsmen and Delta Kappa Gamma. She dearly loved her parents, her brothers and their spouses and children, her adoring husband (there was never a birthday or Valentine morning without a card expressing his love), his siblings, their spouses and children, and her children Gwen, Craig, Barbara and Brad (Kim), grandchildren Jeremy, Josh (Salote), Nick, Allie (Joe), Amanda (Robbie) and Erik, and great grandchildren McKenna and Tillie. It is impossible to paint a true picture of Mom with mere words – she was thrifty for herself so she could give to others. She never met a stranger, and easily made others feel important and welcome. She loved to cook, bake, read, research family history, travel, do rosemaling, needlework and so many other creative activities. She made a home where everyone was welcome, and loved to have gatherings for holidays, special occasions, and for the joy of being with those she loved. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 describes Mom perfectly - Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. We miss you Mom – you and Dad will be in our hearts forever.
