SCOTTSDALE – George Marion Mast was called home to Heaven on February 13th to be with the loves of his life – Our Father in Heaven, his family members that have gone before him and his earthly soul mate Barbara who preceded him in death five years ago after 64 years of Marriage. George and Barbara were so very much in love and the past 5 years have been very difficult for George after losing his lifelong mate which he is now lovingly reunited with in Heaven. George was born on September 1,1933 in Peoria, Illinois. Preceding him in death are his wife Barbara, parents Fred and Abbie Mast and his brothers Dick Brown, Bob Brown and Sisters Betty Brown and Imo Gene Brown. He is survived by his four children, Debbie (Dan) Goebel, Becky (Chip) Custer, Fred (Jenny), Bob (Sabrina), eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. George and Barbara were married in Peoria, Illinois on September 5,1953 at First Methodist Church. As a Christian continually growing in his faith and a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, he was very proud of the fact that all his children have a close relationship with God. After graduating from Arizona State University and being commissioned by the ROTC, George served our country for 7 years in the Air Force before receiving an Honorable discharge as a Captain. George was a dedicated executive at Allstate insurance and retired in 1991 after 25 years with All State insurance where he was a Property Claims Manager. George was very active as a sports coach for his boys growing up, an amazing advocate for his daughter’s activities and a dedicated and loving father to all his children. George loved planning boating trips and vacations for the family to see the National Parks and beauty of our country and gifted his family many wonderful memories camping across the southwest. He longed to create opportunities to bring the family together and in 1986, built a family cabin in Northern Arizona where the family frequently came together to enjoy many special Holiday’s and events together as a loving family unit. George was passionate about everything he did in life and instilled exceptional Morals, Ethics and Values within his family at all times. George lived in his dream home in the Moon Valley area of Phoenix for nearly 55 years and was the last original Neighbor to live in the neighborhood from their inner circle of original friends and neighbors. George loved attending Phoenix Suns Basketball games back in the 70’s through the 90’s and was thrilled when the Arizona Diamondbacks came to Phoenix so he could attend games live with his family. Although George was an extremely hard-working provider for his family, he never allowed his career to imbalance his love and desire to spend time with them and to build a strong and lifelong lasting family that will remain close for the rest of our lives. Family was what it was all about for our Father. He gave us his time, his love his trust, his work ethic, and his passion for being the very best we can be in life. He is the foundation for our Legacy of a close-knit family who dearly loves and cares about each other and he will be dearly missed by his entire family and all those who have been blessed by knowing him. We will dearly miss him on this earth and dedicate our lives to living a life that honors this Great Child of God. We will celebrate his life at Messinger Mortuaries, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, Scottsdale, Arizona on Monday April 3rd at 10:00 A.M. followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Center in honor of George Mast.
