Dr. M. Chris Overby, MD., 71, passed away the evening of March 10, 2023 in Tucson, Arizona in the arms of his husband, Mark O. Larsen, of 43 years.

Chris Overby was born in Miami, Arizona to George and Bobbie Overby on October 23, 1951. He spent his childhood with his sister, Sheryl Jo Overby (Lewis), scaling the mesas of Keams Canyon on Hopi. From these adventures and growing up with his grandparen­ts close by, Chris had a love of family, the outdoors, and travel. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many camping and fishing trips with his parents.

He was an artist and an athlete in his youth. He sang with the Phoenix Boys Choir and was invited to join the London Ballet when he was 11. He attended Maryvale High school. Academical­ly he excelled and was an exchange student in Paris studying at Sorbonne, while attending Prescott College, where he graduated in 1973. He continued his education at Tufts University School of Medicine and graduated in 1979. He completed his surgery residency at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson, Arizona in 1981. It was in Tucson where he met Mark and moved to New York. Dr. Chris Overby completed his neurologic­al surgery residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Neurologic­al Surgery in 1986. Dr. Chris Overby practiced neurologic­al surgery in Windmere and North Shore hospital in New York for 37 years.

As a family we would frequently visit Chris and Mark to explore the city and enjoy on and off Broadway plays. Chris had a complete love of the theatre and saw countless plays and musicals. He loved to be around family and friends from parties on a shrimp boat in New York Harbor to a pontoon boat trip down the Grand Canyon, fun times were always had by all. The family traveled most Christmase­s to skiing destinatio­ns or some winter wonderland. Chris made Christmas incredible! The family would cook crazy culinary masterpiec­es that he had spent months researchin­g. Chris and Mark traveled around the world together making memories from Australia and Easter Island to Mongolia and Egypt.

Dr. Chris Overby is survived by his husband, Mark Larsen; fur baby, Stella; S. Jo Lewis, sister; Meredith Robbins, niece; Sidney Robbins, great niece; his aunt and uncle, Skip and Barbara Benson; as well as beloved cousins, and dear friends.

Today, Creator, we want to thank you for having Chris in our life. Allowing us to share in the gifts you gave him as a partner, a friend, an uncle, a mentor, a teacher, a healer, a musician, a dancer, a brother, an artist, a son. A Celebratio­n of Life will be held in Tucson.
