Here are this week’s nominees for The Arizona Republic’s boys and girls athletes of the week, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath. Nominees are based on performanc­es in AIA sanctioned sports. Vote for the top selection in each of our polls included with the story on azcentral.com. Because of the holiday, this week’s voting will close at 3 p.m. on Friday and winners then will be announced on azcentral.com and in The Arizona Republic. Boys

Lex Clontz, Cesar Chavez basketball: Averaged 19 points in his team’s 4-0 performanc­e in its bracket at Visit Mesa Basketball Challenge. He’s 15 points shy of 1,000 in career.

Kayden Luke, Canyon del Oro wrestling: He was named Outstandin­g Wrestlers at the Mile High Challenge in Prescott, winning the 215-pound division.

John Mattingly, Sunnyslope basketball: Scored 43 points in 62-60 win over Brophy. Then scored 31 against Damien, 24 against Campbell Hall, 28 against La Mirada, and 18 against Heritage Christian in The Classic at Damien tournament in California.

Girls

Aspen McClees, Gilbert basketball: She scored 18 points to lead the Tigers to a 40-37 win over visiting Alchesay from Window Rock, in the Epic New Years Tournament at Gilbert High School on Dec. 28, according to the AIA.

Rachel Roderick, Camp Verde basketball: Scored 17 second-half points for 23 total to lead Camp Verde over Parker 64-46 at home in the annual Yvonne Johnson Memorial Shootout championsh­ip last Thursday.

Lyla Strohman, Cactus Shadows soccer: Tallied 6 goals, 1 assist in four games since Dec. 12 as Cactus Shadows went 5-0-1 during that stretch.
