Here are this week’s nominees for The Arizona Republic’s boy’s and girl’s athletes of the week, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath. Nominees are based on performances in AIAsanctioned sports. Vote for the top selection in each of our polls (included below with story on azcentral.com). Voting will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday this week. Boys
Vance Nilsson, Gilbert, track and field, Sr.:
Broke the Arizona state record in the 300-meter hurdles at the Hohokam Invitational where he ran 35.67 seconds, which is also the fastest time in the country. DeMar Coleman, Phoenix South Mountain, track and field, Jr.: Ran 21.22 to win the 200 meters at the Hohokam Invitational, the second-fastest time in the state this season.
Ryan Zerbib, Phoenix Brophy Prep, tennis, Jr.: Won both of his singles matches, going 6-0, 6-0 against Scottsdale Chaparral on Wednesday and 6-2, 6-1 against Mesa Mountain View on Thursday; also won both doubles matches.
Girls
Devyn Henderson, Phoenix North Canyon, track and field, Fr.:
Ran 11.90 in the 100 meters to come in first at the Hohokam Invitational, which is the fastest time in the state this season by a freshman.
Landen LeBlond, Goodyear Millennium, track and field, Sr.: Ran 5:03.60 to win the 1,600 meters at the Scottsdale Distance Classic, setting a new state lead in the event.
Piper Rama, Phoenix Sandra Day O’Connor, beach volleyball, Sr.:
Had 27 kills in a 5-0 win over Phoenix Sunnyslope on Monday and 23 kills in a 4-1 win over Phoenix Desert Vista on Wednesday.
