Minnesota to sign Martin

Former Thunder guard to receive four-year contract.

- Associated Press

Small forward Kevin Martin is leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder to rejoin former coach Rick Adelman with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

A person with knowledge of the deal says Martin agreed to terms with the Wolves on a four-year deal worth as much as $30 million on Tuesday. The person requested anonymity because the deal has not been officially announced.

Martin averaged 14.0 points and shot 42.6 percent on 3-pointers last year in a bench role for the Thunder. He will become a starter in Minnesota, where the Timberwolves have been desperately looking for 3-point shooters after finishing last in the league in that department last season.

Martin played for Adelman with the Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets.

The Timberwolves also are keeping forward Chase Budinger, who agreed to terms on a three-year, $16 million contract, a person with knowledge of the deal said. The deal includes a player option for the final year. The person requested anonymity because an official announcement has not been made.

Budinger averaged 9.4 points and shot 32 percent from 3-point range last season. He only played in 23 games thanks to a knee injury that derailed a promising start to the year, but Adelman and new President Flip Saunders made no secret of the fact that they badly wanted Budinger back in Minnesota.

The Timberwolves paid Budinger a visit at his San Diego home on Sunday night, arriving just after the market opened at 9:01 p.m. on the West Coast. Budinger also entertained an offer from the Milwaukee Bucks, but ultimately decided to remain with the Timberwolves.

Three-team trade: A person with knowledge of the situation says a threeteam trade is in place that sends J.J. Redick from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Los Angeles Clippers and point guard Eric Bledsoe from the Clippers to the Phoenix Suns. The deal also sends Jared Dudley from the Suns to the Clippers and Caron Butler from the Clippers to the Suns. The Bucks will get two second-round draft picks, according to the person who requested anonymity because the deal can’t officially be made public until July 10 under NBA rules.

Lakers: General manager Mitch Kupchak, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and other representatives of the team met for two hours with free agent center Dwight Howard to make their pitch for keeping him in Los Angeles. The Lakers can offer a maximum of $118 million over five seasons, and other teams can offer $88 million over four years. Howard also has met with the Hawks and Rockets.

Wizards: Swingman Martell Webster agreed to a four-year deal to stay with Washington. The eight-year veteran averaged a career-high 11.4 points last season and was a respected locker room leader. He could also serve as a mentor for Otto Porter, chosen No. 3 overall in the draft.

Bulls: Center Nazr Mohammed says he is resigning with Chicago, which reportedly also has agreed to a two-year contract with Mike Dunleavy Jr.
