Cold weather back this week

Wind chills may drop below zero on Sunday.

Remember Sunday’s warm, spring-like temperatures in the mid-60s? Next Sunday will be the polar opposite as an Arctic cold front sends early morning temperatures plummeting into the mid- teens and the mercury struggling to crack the freezing mark during the afternoon.

But before the Arctic blast’s arrival, Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton is promising at least one more day — Wednesday — with highs in the low 60s.

No precipitation is in Minton’s forecast through the weekend, which will be a good thing as temperatures start to drop.

Sunday will be sunny and very cold, with morning lows in the mid-teens; afternoon highs in the low to mid-30s.

Wednesday’s high of 60 will be followed by a high of 43 Thursday and 39 Friday, Minton said, predicting morning lows of 37 Wednesday, Thursday and 21 Friday.

Saturday will be sunny, with a morning low of 27 and afternoon high of 47, Minton said.

Sunday will be sunny and very cold, with morning lows in the mid-teens and afternoon highs only reaching the low to mid30s. Brisk northwesterly winds will drop wind chills to below zero across north Georgia and into single digits across central Georgia on Sunday, the National Weather Service warned.

Atlanta’s normal high for this time of the year is 56, the normal low 37.
