Seminar helps make family history come alive

Making family history come alive is the theme of the Georgia Genealogic­al Society’s all-day seminar to be held March 7 in Homerville.

The five speakers will focus on how to enhance a family history. Anne Wallace and Adra Mayfield will speak on “Telling Those Family Stories Orally and Making Them Come Alive,” Betty S. English will discuss “Exploring Your Family History by Bringing Back Old Fashioned Storytelli­ng,” and Nona Thornton will talk about “Genealogy Creations: Ways to Use and Share Your Genealogy Research.” Susan Sloan’s will discuss “Adding the Details: Researchin­g Your Family Story,” focusing on how to be sure the facts are correct.

The seminar is co-sponsored by the Huxford Genealogic­al Society and will be held at the Huxford-Spear Genealogic­al Library at the Homerville Municipal Complex, 20 S. College St., from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $35 for members, $45 for nonmembers. A buffet lunch is included.

The metro Atlanta area has several genealogic­al societies that hold monthly meetings with speakers.

You should always check, as many lectures can help with your genealogy education.

The Cobb County Genealogic­al Society (cobbgagens­oc.org) meets at the Marietta Public Library, the Rockdale County Genealogic­al Society (facebook.com/Rockdal eCountyGen­ealogicalS­ociety) meets in Conyers, the metro Atlanta chap- ter of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogic­al Society (aahgsatl.org) meets in Atlanta, and the Genealogic­al Computer Society of Georgia (gencompute­r.org) meets in Roswell.

Kitty Cooper’s blog
