Errors can’t stop Bama

Tough defense makes difference against Arkansas.

-

Calvin Ridley caught an 81-yard touchdown pass from Jake Coker and No. 8 Alabama rode its swarming defense to a 27-14 win over Arkansas on Saturday night.

Stymied by early mistakes, the Crimson Tide (5-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) scored 24 points over the final 17 minutes after trailing at halftime. The Razorbacks (2-4, 1-2) couldn’t do more than flirt with the upset despite two Alabama interceptions and a pair of missed field goals.

The Tide held Alex Collins to 26 rushing yards and added three sacks and an interception.

Coker was twice intercepted on deep balls in the first half but finished 24 of 33 for 262 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Derrick Henry ran for 95 yards on 27 carries and set an Alabama record late with a touchdown in his 11th consecutive game.

Reggie Ragland had a sack, two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.

No. 11 Florida 21, Missouri 3: Kelvin Taylor ran for 99 yards and two touchdowns as the visiting Gators (6-0, 4-0) defeated the Tigers (4-2, 1-2).

In improving to 6-0 for the first time since 2012, Florida spoiled Missouri quarterback Drew Lock’s first start at home. Lock was intercepted twice as the Tigers had just 257 yards of total offense.

Gators quarterback Will Grier was 20 of 33 passing for 208 yards without an interception.

No. 14 Ole Miss 52, New Mexico State 3: Chad Kelly threw for 384 yards and three touchdowns as the Rebels (5-1) routed the Aggies (0-5).

Kelly, who came into the day leading the Southeastern Conference in passing, has topped 300 yards in four of his six games. He completed 24 of 33 throws.

Laquon Treadwell caught eight passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns, including one on a spectacular one-handed catch down the right sideline.

The Rebels finished with 665 yards of total offense. Eugene Brazley ran for a team-high 98 yards, including a 78-yard touchdown.

New Mexico State couldn’t convert a few good opportunities after Ole Miss turnovers. The Aggies missed two field goal attempts. The Aggies’ Nick Jeanty completed 11 of 22 passes for 74 yards.

Mississippi State 45, Troy 17: Nick Fitzgerald, filling in for an under-the-weather Dak Prescott, accounted for three touchdowns and 170 yards of total offense as the host Bulldogs (4-2) cruised past the Trojans (1-4).

Troy dominated the time of possession (40:25), but managed only two trips to the red zone against the Bulldogs’ physical defense.

Fitzgerald, a redshirt freshman who had thrown a combined four passes in two previous games this season, was 6 of 7 for 141 yards passing and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 29 yards and another touchdown.

De’Runnya Wilson, Fred Ross and Donald Gray each caught touchdown passes.
