Wildfire threatens homes in Big Sur

-

Firefighters struggled Thursday to get the upper hand on a massive wildfire along Northern California’s picturesque Big Sur coastline, where anxious residents awaited word on their homes and popular parks and trails closed at the height of tourist season.

The blaze spanning 42 square miles has destroyed 34 homes, forced the evacuation of 350 properties and put at least 2,000 buildings at risk. A 35-year-old father of two girls also was killed this week when the bulldozer he was operating rolled over on the fire lines.

Police officers save robbery suspect

Police officers saved an armed robbery suspect from a burning car after a chase ended in a crash in an episode caught on police body camera video.

The incident happened in south Fort Worth earlier this month when officers were advised to watch for a car with three men wanted for a reported armed robbery. Officers soon spotted a car matching the description.

Police said the car crashed after a brief pursuit and the engine began to burn. One suspect fled, another was detained but a third was trapped in the front passenger’s seat. Police video shows an officer working to pry open the jammed door before pulling the unconscious suspect from the car.
