Police: Self-defense was motive in fatal shooting

-

Self-defense appears to be the motive in a double shooting in south Fulton County that left one man dead and another injured, police said.

About 8 p.m. Wednesday, two men in their early 20s assaulted someone during an attempted robbery, the Union City Police Department said.

“The male (assault) victim was able to break away and was chased to a nearby friend’s house,” police said.

Upon arriving at the friend’s house in the 5100 block of Cotter Drive, the victim yelled for his friend to help.

“The friend heeded to his call and jumped into the altercation,” police said. “During the altercation, shots were fired.”

The two men in their 20s sped from the scene in Union City to Summerwood Drive in Fairburn, where they were taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds, police said. One of them died.

Union City police are handling the shooting investigation, and Fairburn police are assisting, Fairburn police said in a Facebook post.

The dead man’s name and other details were not released.
