Lantern-making workshop: Want to walk in the Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade (Sept. 10), but don’t have a lantern? No worries; learn how to make simple or complex globe lanterns with detailed paper designs, drawings, streamers, ears, beaks or wings beginning at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at New Church United Methodist Church. Backpack blessing: To start the new school year off right, backpacks will be blessed during the 8:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. services on Aug. 14 at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
