Lacy’s over talk about weight

Packers RB reports to camp in shape, ready to move on.

Eddie Lacy is tired of talking about it and the Packers are tired of hearing about it.

The former Crimson Tide running back entered the 2015 NFL season with high expectations, and the results were underwhelming. After beginning his career with back-to-back seasons of 1,100-plus yards rushing, Lacy slumped to just 758 yards last season.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy called out Lacy for being overweight and out of shape following the season, making it clear that the expectations were that he return to the Packers in better shape for the 2016 season.

Lacy reportedly reached 260 pounds last season, which was roughly 26 pounds over his listed weight of 234 pounds. He worked with P90X founder Tony Horton over the offseason, and has continued to shape his physique in a return to his ideal playing weight.

Last week, he showed up to Packers camp looking good. And he’s ready for that to be the end of it.

“I’m tired of talking about it,” Lacy said, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. “I’m pretty sure you all are tired of asking about it. I’m tired of hearing about it everywhere I go. I’m done with that.”

McCarthy, who benched Lacy twice during the 2015 season, appears to be ready to move on as well after declaring Lacy ready to go for the 2016 season.

“I’m just going to be frank here: I’m done talking about people’s weight,” McCarthy said according to Demovsky. “I’ve never put a guy’s individual weight in the media. That’s not something I talk about, and in Eddie’s particular case, I’ve talked enough about his weight.”

Fox news

Better get those Super Bowl LI tickets early, Bears fans! John Fox, in his previous NFL coaching stops, took the Panthers and Broncos to the big game in just his second season there — and this is his second year in Chicago. (Notice we didn’t say anything about winning it, however.)

Heard in passing

A federal judge, showing no interest in air-filled bladders, dismissed a lawsuit aimed at stopping hordes of balloons that get released at Nebraska home football games. “Why couldn’t I have gotten that judge?” moaned Tom Brady.

Dockett retires

Darnell Dockett, the big, boisterous defensive lineman who overcame a rough childhood to thrive in the NFL, said goodbye to the league.

The 35-year-old player signed a one-day contract with the Cardinals last week and announced his retirement at a news conference.

Dockett played 10 seasons with Arizona after being drafted out of Florida State.
