Tebow and Braves a good fit? Club has history with ex-football stars
Twenty major league teams will reportedly scout former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow during his tryout Tuesday in Los Angeles.
The Braves said they will be among the teams in attendance.
USA Today’s For the Win, however, has some thoughts on why Atlanta would be a perfect home for the former Heisman Trophy winner out of Florida:
“Atlanta Braves: An already football-mad fanbase with minor league clubs in Georgia, North Carolina and Mississippi, and a team warmed up for the presence of a tantalizingly charming outfielder of limited proficiency thanks to Jeff Francoeur,” the newspaper said.
They didn’t mention the team’s history with football-players-turned-baseball-stars: Deion Sanders and Brian Jordan.
It was first reported a few weeks ago that Tebow, who hasn’t played organized baseball since his junior year in high school, was pursuing a career as a baseball player.
Almost immediately he received a contract offer from an Independent League team in Illinois.
Tebow won two national championships with the Florida Gators.
He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2010, but has not played in the NFL since 2012 with the New York Jets. He went to training camp with the New England Patriots in 2013 and the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015 but did not claim a roster spot either time.
