HOW TO REGISTER, VOTE IN GEORGIA
Absentee ballots will begin going out to Georgia voters Sept. 20 ahead of the state’s Nov. 8 presidential election, with people not registered to vote facing an Oct. 11 deadline to get their names on the rolls. Any registered voter can request a mail-in absentee ballot, either through his or her local county registrar or through the Georgia Secretary of State Office’s website (www.sos.ga.gov). If you want to cast a ballot in person, early voting begins Oct. 17 statewide. Check with your local elections office to see where to go.
How to register or check voting status
Anyone can confirm his or her voter status through the Secretary of State Office’s online “my voter page” website (www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/ mvp.do). If you need to register:
For online voter registration, go to the Secretary of State Office’s website and, under the elections tab, click “Register to Vote.”
Download a voter registration application (http://sos.ga.gov/index. php/Elections/register_to_vote), mail in the completed form.
Check the “voter registration” box when you renew or apply for your driver’s license.
College students can obtain Georgia voter registration forms or the necessary forms to register in any U.S. state from their school registrar’s office.
DON’T FORGET:
To bring photo identification when you vote, which can include a Georgia driver’s license, even if it’s expired; a state-issued voter identification card; a valid U.S. passport; or a valid U.S. military photo ID.
No “ballot selfies” are allowed at the polls, so wait to snap a photo until you’re outside. It is illegal in Georgia to take pictures of a ballot or voting equipment.
