Committee pushes Ed-SPLOST renewal
Cherokee County residents have created a 2016 Ed-SPLOST Renewal Committee to get the word out about the Nov. 8 referendum to renew the Cherokee School District’s education special purpose local option sales tax.
Voters will be asked to approve a five-year continuation of the 1 percent sales tax for the schools. The committee urges residents to vote yes, citing six major funding areas: construction, renovations, technology, transportation, land acquisition and debt retirement.

Construction continues on an additional northbound lane from just north of Ga. 20 to Ga. 369; that project is tentatively scheduled to be completed next spring. The additional southbound lane will be started soon afterward and is to open in mid-2018.
The ribbon-cutting is set for 10 a.m. Oct. 5, at the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority Park & Ride off Deputy Bill Cantrell Memorial Road, Cumming. After the ceremony, officials will convene a Forsyth County Transportation Summit at the Forsyth Conference Center at Lanier Technical College. Updates on transportation projects will be given.
