Connector to see overnight lane closures

-

Except for high-occupancy vehicle lanes, the I-75 northbound lanes and then the I-75 southbound lanes at the north end of the Downtown Connector will be closed for resurfacing for nine nights starting Thursday, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced.

The work affects the I-75 part of the Connector — the outside lanes — in Midtown between 10th Street and the Brookwood split where northbound I-75 and I-85 diverge. When regular lanes are closed, I-75 traffic will be allowed to use HOV lanes.

Weather permitting, the affected I-75 northbound lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday; 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday; 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday; and 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Affected I-75 southbound lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday; 9 p.m. Oct. 5 to 5 a.m. Oct. 6; 9 p.m. Oct. 6 to 5 a.m. Oct. 7; 9 p.m. Oct. 7 to 9 a.m. Oct. 8; and 9 p.m. Oct. 8, to 9 a.m. Oct. 9.

Cycling advocate to be memorialized

A proposal to designate one block of the Peachtree Street bike lane in memory of Dennis Hoffarth, co-founder of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, will be the topic of a public hearing at Atlanta City Hall.

The City Council Utilities Committee hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. Oct. 11. An ordinance sponsored by council member Kwanza Hall would name the Peachtree Street NE bike lane for Hoffarth between Ralph McGill Boulevard and Pine Street, where Peachtree crosses over the Downtown Connector. Hoffarth died July 15 of complications from a brain tumor.
