Sock reaches semis of Stockholm Open
American Jack Sock rolled into the semifinals of the Stockholm Open with a quarterfinal victory over Gastao Elias of Portugal.
Sock, the sixth seed, posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory and will face fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany, who advanced by beating fellow German Tobias Kamke 6-3, 7-5 (2).
European Open: Belgian David Goffin, the tournament’s top seed, rallied to defeat Marius Copil of Romania to advance to the semifinals in Antwerp, Belgium.
Goffin lost the opening set 7-5, then won 6-1, 6-3. He will face Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman, who beat No. 4 seed Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay 7-6 (8), 6-3.
Luxembourg Open: Lauren Davis of the U.S. fell to No. 1 seed Petra Kvitova 7-5, 6-3 in the semifinals.
In today’s final, Kvitova will face unseeded Monica Niculescu of Romania, who beat third-seeded Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands 6-3, 6-3.
Kremlin Cup: Top-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova beat fourth-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine 6-1, 6-7 (2), 6-4 in the semifinals in Moscow to remain on course to claim the eighth and last spot in the WTA Finals.
Kuznetsova will qualify for the finals in Singapore only if she wins the tournament. Otherwise, the berth will go to Britain’s Johanna Konta.
As in the quarterfinal win against Hungarian Timea Babos, the Russian lost the second set in the tiebreak before winning the final set.
Kuznetsova will face Daria Gavrilova in the final after the Australian defeated Julia Goerges of Germany 7-5, 6-1. She will be seeking her first WTA title.
In the men’s event, Fabio Fognini upset second-seeded Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-2, 6-2 to face in the semis thirdseeded Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany, who beat Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil 6-4, 6-2.
