Q: In the news about the wildfire, sometimes they say Rock Mountain and other times I hear them say Black Rock Mountain. Are they the same? I know there is a state park on half of Black Rock Mountain. Can you please clarify this? —Diane Daggett, Winston

A: Rock Mountain is northwest of Clayton, but isn’t associated with Black Rock Mountain State Park, which is in Mountain City.

One of the recent forest fires was called the Rock Mountain Fire, which spread to 24,725 acres in Rabun and Towns counties in Georgia, and Macon and Clay counties in North Carolina.

No fire reached Black Rock Mountain State Park, state authorities told Q&A on the News.

The Rock Mountain Fire was 95 percent contained and “demobilization of excess resources continues,” according to a update posted on a inter-agency website (inciweb.nwcg.gov) Sunday afternoon.

The fire burned 11,111 acres in Rabun County and 1,851 in Towns County.

Q: I just heard that Mose Allison, a Southern-born musician, died. Can you provide details? —Suzanne Sports, Peachtree City

A: Allison, who was born in Tippo, Miss., in 1927, died in Hilton Head, S.C., on Nov. 15. He was 89.

He was a pianist and songwriter whose music was a combination of jazz and blues.

“In the South, I’m considered an advanced bebop type,” he was quoted in DownBeat magazine in 1958, as reported by The New York Times last month. “In New York, I’m considered a country blues-folk type. Actually, I don’t think I’m either. Maybe I’m a little of both.”
