Aimee Copeland delivers keynote at Angel Gala
Aimee Copeland will be the keynote speaker at the fourth annual Angel Gala slated to be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 10 at Seraphim Skin Care in Atlanta.
The gala will benefit Friends of Disabled Adults and Children and celebrate Seraphim Skin Care’s 20th anniversary in Buckhead. To be added to the Angel list, please RSVP at 404-266-0531.
This is the second year Copeland, a FODAC board member, has been the featured guest at the gala.
Copeland contracted a flesh-eating bacteria May 1, 2012, when a zip-line she was on broke, thrusting her into the murky waters of the Little Tallapoosa River. Doctors had to amputate both of Copeland’s hands, her left leg and her right foot.
She and Seraphim founder and owner Lil Dyer Cobbs became quick friends soon after the zip-line accident.
Copeland promises to deliver a “very personal” message to patrons this year.
“I have been through the obvious physical trauma and I’ve learned a great deal about myself, about others and about the world,” she said in a press release. “I want to share with people how they can become a greater person. You have the opportunity to meet your obstacle and to surpass it. You can even be grateful for your obstacles. We would not have the chance to grow if we did not have obstacles to meet and overcome.”
FODAC, she said, helped her when she needed them most.
The non-profit “takes very little and makes something very big,” Copeland said. “When you give FODAC $5, they can give somebody $50 worth of excellent recycled equipment.”

“This year we’re going vintage,” Cobbs said. “Reach into the back of your closet — or your mother’s closet — for something festive with a retro or vintage flavor to it.”
