Teachers receive nearly $31K in grants

In partnership with the Atlanta Braves Foundation, the Cobb Schools Foundation has awarded 19 IMPACT grants to Cobb County School District educators of nearly $31,000.

The Atlanta Braves Foundation helped to fund seven IMPACT grants worth about $10,000.

Several grants will advance Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math initiatives in Cobb schools.

Also, teachers will use the funds to promote reading and history exploration. Among the projects will be:

A parental education program to encourage parents to be engaged and involved with their children, develop parenting skills and promote involvement in their child’s education at Floyd Middle School.

A chicken coop to provide fertilizer for Daniell Middle School’s greenhouse.

A farm-to-table learning experience, using vegetables and herbs grown in the hydroponic and raised garden beds of Cheatham Hill Elementary School for a fundraiser benefiting MUST Ministries.

Special education field trips for Eastvalley Elementary School to the Georgia Aquarium and Children’s Museum of Atlanta.

Scholarships for 40 adults, who have not earned a high school diploma, to take GED testing at the Cobb County Adult Education Center.

Introduction of Robotics and Coding, using Dash and Dot robots for K-5 as a part of STEM curriculum; a Coding and Robotics After School Club for fourth and fifth grades and a Before School Club for K-3 at Harmony Leland Elementary School.

Using virtual-reality field trips with Google Expeditions, where students from Pope High School can explore historical locations around the globe.

Renovating and upgrading the production room used to produce the morning news show at Acworth Elementary School.
