Atlanta’s booming film industry was well-represente­d in Monday’s Golden Globe nomination­s announceme­nt.

Atlanta’s booming film industry was well represente­d in Monday’s Golden Globe nomination­s announceme­nt, with a number of big and small-screen projects earning a nod. The locally filmed Netflix hit “Stranger Things” and its star Winona Ryder; the FX show “Atlanta” its star Donald Glover; Kerry Washington, star of locally filmed HBO movie “Confirmati­on;” feature film “Hidden Figures” and Octavia Spencer, who starred along with Janelle Monae and Taraji P. Henson in “Hidden Figures,” were among the nominees announced by Don Cheadle, Laura Dern and Anna Kendrick.

Viola Davis and Denzel Washington picked up nomination­s for “Fences,” which had an advance red-carpet screening in Atlanta last week. The Hollywood Foreign Press Associatio­n, which awards the Globes, also announced that legendary actress Meryl Streep will received the 2017 Cecil B. DeMille Award: “Chosen by the HFPA Board of Directors, the Cecil B. DeMille Award is given annually to a talented individual who has made an incredible impact on the world of entertainm­ent.”

The 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards today, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, will be broadcast on NBC on Jan. 8.
