City approves salary increase for police
The Norcross City Council voted unanimously to increase minimum police salaries from $16.64 to between $20.19 and $21.81 depending on the number of hours employed, and to adjust existing police officers salaries to align with these minimums.
The decision follows a Norcross human resources survey of police salaries throughout the state. Norcross officials noted police salaries have not been reviewed since 2008. Based on the city’s research, Norcross police salaries ranked lowest compared to Lawrenceville starting at $20.91, Lilburn at $19.13, Duluth at $18.88, Suwanee at $18.68, Doraville at $18, and Snellville at $17.40.
Further research indicates many of these cities, as well as the county, have plans to increase starting salaries.
City strengthens noise ordinance to control bass
The Lilburn City Council approved changes to the noise ordinance Monday to restrict levels of bass noise in residential areas. Previously, the lowest sound frequencies were not measured.
The new ordinance defines the levels of dBC, high and low sound extreme decibels, in addition to dBA, considered normal noise decibel measurements. Also, noise levels will be measured from the property line of the “offender” after 10 p.m. and will continue to be measured from the complainant’s property line at all other times.
The new noise ordinance restricts noise measurements taken from the complainant’s property line to not exceed 60 dBA and 50 dBC between 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Noise measurements taken from the offender’s property line cannot
New mosaic adding color and inspiration
Residents will now have another piece of artwork to admire in downtown Duluth. Artist Jennifer Freeman, with the help of Duluth Fall Festival volunteers, recently completed a mosaic artwork in Parsons Alley next to Dreamland BBQ. The piece will be dedicated at 6 p.m. Dec. 14.
The Duluth Fall Festival routinely uses all the proceeds from the city’s annual festival for projects designed to go back to the city. The organization’s $25,000 donation made it possible for the design, creation and installation of the mosaic, which spans 25 feet along the wall and rises between 5 and 7 feet tall. Public funds were
