GDOT to close I-575 lanes for road work

-

Two lanes of southbound I-575 in the Woodstock area will be closed nightly through Thursday morning as crews remove a barrier wall of the Northwest Corridor express lane project, the Georgia Department of Transportation says.

Weather permitting, the lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. through 5 a.m. between Ridgewalk and Towne Lake parkways. Traffic will use the auxiliary lane to get through the work zone.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and use caution. On-site message boards will be present indicating dates and times of the closures.

The Northwest Corridor project is adding 29.7 miles of express toll lanes along I-75 from Akers Mill to Hickory Grove roads, and along I-575 from the I-75 junction to Sixes Road.

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners already has approved the memorandum of understanding for the project and will sign it after Roswell signs, staff said.

All construction, engineer and contract supervision will be the city’s responsibility, the agreement says. When work is finished, the county will accept and operate the new facilities at no further cost to Roswell and reimburse the city within 30 days.

The Hardscrabble Green Loop will be a multi-use trail connecting Roswell High School and Sweet Apple Elementary School.

The seller is W.B. Holdings Triangle LLC, whose principal is Adam Orkin, and the price is expected to be $4.8 million, officials said. Plans call for the site to be cleared and replaced with a park facing Roswell Road, and a roundabout in place of the present intersection of Johnson Ferry and Mount Vernon.

In December, the Council approved paying $73,600 to assist in the relocation of the last business on the triangle, Magic Mike’s Automotive. The auto repair shop moved up the street to 6560 Roswell Road.
