Contract for paving city streets awarded

The Suwanee City Council voted unanimousl­y Tuesday to approve $805,048 for patching and resurfacin­g of about four miles of city streets.

The contract goes to low-bidder Allied Paving Contractor­s Inc. of Pendergras­s. Eight contractor­s bid for the work.

The project generally consists of milling, patching, resurfacin­g, shoulder work, grassing, and pavement markings on city streets along with a short section of milling and patching on Smithtown Road and correction of water ponding on a small section of Station Center Boulevard.

Resurfacin­g projects include Cherokee Trail, Mohawk Trail, White Sands Way, Maple Terrace Drive, Green Pine Way, Morning Top Place, Morning Glen Court, Morning Top Court, Suwanee Creek Court, Camber Well Lane, Pine Manor Bluff, Paddle Wheel Court, Mill View Court, Grand Vista Approach, Red Rock Point, and Red Rock Court along with a section of King Street.

Suwanee will pay for its portion of the project using SPLOST funds. The Georgia Department of Transporta­tion is providing up to $162,116 as part of the 2017 Local Maintenanc­e and Improvemen­t Grant Program.

Tentative schedule for substantia­l completion is June.

City manager retires, assistant is promoted

The Loganville City Council recently named Danny Roberts to serve as city manager effective March 1. Roberts has been serving as assistant city manager as well as fire chief and has been an employee with the city for more than two decades. He replaces Bill Jones who will be retiring.

Loganville’s city manager is responsibl­e for the organizati­on and management of the daily operations of Loganville’s city government in accordance with local ordinances, laws and policies prescribed by the elected officials.

The manager is responsibl­e for a variety of activities including the day-to-day operations of the city, advises the mayor and city council on strategic and tactical issues as well as preparing and presenting the annual budget.

City approves qualifying fees for election

The Suwanee City Council voted Tuesday to set qualifying fees for the Nov. 7 general municipal election. Three council posts will be up for election: Post 3, currently held by Linnea Miller, Post 4, held by Beth Hilscher, and Post 5 held by Dan Foster. The qualifying fee for each post is $270.

Qualifying is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 21 in the city clerk’s office at Suwanee City Hall, 330 Town Center Ave. Those wishing to vote in this election must be registered to vote with the state and live within Suwanee city limits.
