Duke’s Krzyzewski to return Saturday
Mike Krzyzewski is returning this weekend to coach his Duke Blue Devils.
The Hall of Fame coach made the announcement Thursday night on his weekly radio show that he will make his return Saturday against Pittsburgh after back surgery kept him out for four weeks.
Duke (17-5, 5-4 ACC) went 4-3 with associate head coach Jeff Capel running the team in Krzyzewski’s absence. The No. 21 Blue Devils won two road games in 48 hours — at Wake Forest and at No. 20 Notre Dame — after losing three of their first five games without the winningest men’s coach in D-I history.
Krzyzewski stepped away from the team to have a fragment of a herniated disk removed from his lower back, the fifth surgery since the end of last season for the coach who turns 70 on Feb. 13.
Thursday’s Top 25: Chris Chiozza had the first triple-double of his career, with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, and No. 24 Florida dominated woeful Missouri (5-16, 0-9 SEC) 93-54. The host Gators (17-5, 7-2) tied a school record by winning their third consecutive game by at least 30 points.
■ Allonzo Trier scored 18 points and No. 5 Arizona roared to life in the second half to defeat host Oregon State 71-54. Dusan Ristic had 10 points and six rebounds for the Wildcats (21-2, 10-0 Pac-12), who have won 15 straight games. Stephen Thompson Jr. had 16 points and five steals for the Beavers (4-19, 0-10).
